skin a gentle blue

This is my first game of any sort, it is a horror puzzle game where you explore the pages of a religious tome, solving puzzles while slowly altering your body and mind. Analyze passages, gather relics, and find what lies beyond.

Synopsis :

You've found a strange tome, filled to the brim with cryptic writing and ancient methods of physical ascension. There is a certain life to the pages, and those who raise them find it difficult to stray their eyes. Explore the reaches of this mysterious religious text, solve the challenges held within, and come out the other end as something new.

Pretextual Information :

It is recommended you play with the tab full-screened, as some assets are displayed improperly otherwise. It might be helpful to write certain pieces of information down if you find yourself struggling. Sometimes opening the game again after it's already been opened can cause a visual glitch that makes the background darker, restart the game with the prompt in the corner to fix this. If any issues are encountered while playing, feel free to contact me. I'm new to all of this, so any feedback of any sort is highly appreciated.

Sorry for the lack of settings and helpful features, I'm new and have no idea how to program well enough for such things. Bear with me as I update the game.

Content Warning :

This game contains fairly visceral written descriptions of body horror, pseudo-medical surgical practices, and sensory horror.

There are also pixel art depictions of characters undergoing processes of body horror, but they are not life-like or detailed enough to elicit a negative reaction in most people.

This game is based around a make-believe religion, but be aware there are some fairly real themes of religious induction and cult-like scenarios that may affect some people.

Platform :

Though a browser game, it's recommended you play only on PC, as many of the graphics are warped or displayed incorrectly on mobile devices.

Amazing stuff. I just stumbled on this completely randomly via weird f-ing games blog. Really impressed with the viscerality of the poetry. Thank you for sharing your art with the world.

Thank you for your kind words! I didn't expect to see any more interaction on this so long after making it! I made this project back in high school but have been doing mostly non-game writing/poetry since, the positive feedback always makes me feel like doing another game (as much work as they are). :)

This game was SO fun to try and figure out, I literally lost track of time playing it! Loved the aesthetic, loved the variety of puzzles. Over all, a super cool, unique take on text-based horror/puzzle games!

Also, since you asked on the end screen for feedback on stuff like typos, I did notice a couple (none that stopped me from completing the game obviously!) On the Lachryphagy page, "annoited" should be "anointed", and under the Something section, "its" should be "it's". On the Conception page, "consiousness" should be "consciousness", and "puss" should be "pus" (unless you wanted to talk about cats, then nvm). Finally, on the Mantle page, "usupers" should be "usurpers".

I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'll go in and fix those mistakes you found, along with some other stuff people have brought to my attention. Thanks for the help.

sorry for the visual glitches that happen with some of the text art, I'm not completely sure what causes them, but am working to make them go away.
